Moss Stitch Potholder

Potholders are a great beginner-friendly crochet pattern. They're usually on the smaller side, the shape is very basic, and they're a great way to learn a lot of the basic techniques used in crochet. They work up very quickly, so you'll have a finished product in a short amount of time, and they're also a fantastic project to use up any scrap yarn you might have laying around.

For this potholder pattern, I wanted to use the moss stitch. The moss stitch is made up of alternating chains and single crochets, so it is a very beginner friendly stitch pattern.

This is the first pattern that I have made, so please leave a comment if there are any issues with readability or if you have any questions. Enjoy this free crochet potholder pattern!

(Row 2 is where we will begin the Moss Stitch. For a more in depth moss stitch tutorial, you can click here).

Row 2: Ch 2, turn, skip next st, sc, (ch 1, sk next st, sc)* until end of row (20st)

Do not tie off. Now we will work the trim.

Chain 2, then sc along the side of the potholder. When you reach the corner, work 3 sc in corner stitch to turn. Continue working sc along the next side. When you reach the corner, 3 sc to turn. Repeat until you have gone all the way around the potholder.

When you reach where you started, sl st in to first sc.

Hanger loop (optional): Ch 6, sl st to last sc.

Cut yarn, tie off, and weave in ends.
